CPRW Caernarfonshire Branch Spring Visit

Coed Hendre Ddu, Cwm Pennant
Tuesday 27th May

CPRW Caernarfonshire branch are  planning an afternoon visit to the woodlands of Coed Hendre Ddu near Garn Dolbenmaen on the northern flank of Cwm Pennant within Eryri and  one of the most beautiful and peaceful valleys in Wales.

The deciduous woodlands have been developed over the last 20 years in an area of abandoned slate quarries. They are now a part of the emerging National Forest of Wales which has visionary aims to connect privately owned woodlands,  combining provision of public access and amenity, quality design and management, and multipurpose use. Terry Thomas, the Manager of  Coed Hendre Ddu, has kindly offered to brief us on the project and guide us round some of the easier paths and interesting remnants of the quarries.

The  plan for the event is as follows:

12.00 For those interested in a light lunch, meet  at the Golden Fleece Inn in Tremadog (to be confirmed).

14.00 Meet with cars at Dolbenmaen Church at the southern end of the access road into Cwm Pennant (SH507431).  Possible brief visit to the nearby Motte.

14.30 Shuttle a few vehicles  c.1.25 mile via narrow road and rough track up to Coed Hendre Ddu parking area.

14.45-c.16.30 Guided walk on easier paths  to points of interest in the woodlands and former quarry.

Please let Noel Davey know if you are interested in coming  on the visit, whether or not you plan to have lunch, or for more details. ([email protected], 07543 108780)

We do hope to see you!

Look out for news of other branch events later in the year.
