Plans for a new visitor hub at Moel Famau have been approved by Denbighshire County Council’s planning committee. The hub, designed to enhance the visitor experience and support sustainable tourism, will be located at the bottom of the main path up the mountain.
What’s Included:
The new facility will feature a café with a grab-and-go refreshment area, an information point, restrooms, and space for rangers and volunteers. Associated works will include the installation of a pump and pumphouse to supply water to the site.
Why It’s Needed:
Moel Famau has seen a sharp rise in visitor numbers in recent years—from 200,000 to 300,000 annually. The hub aims to meet growing demand by offering essential services and helping to manage the environmental pressures associated with high footfall.
Concerns and Support:
While some concerns have been raised about potential impacts on the environment, traffic, and local businesses, supporters argue the new hub will provide much-needed facilities, improve safety and cleanliness, and bring wider benefits through increased tourism revenue.
Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with the goal of having the hub open to the public by autumn 2025.
