News from Ceredigion Branch – April 2025

Green Gen Towy Teifi 52km Pylon Line

Green GEN Cymru is developing a 132 kV electricity pylon line that stretches 52km from Lan Fawr Energy Park, situated east of Llanddewi Brefi in Ceredigion, to a new National Grid substation in Llandyfaelog, Carmarthenshire.

The design incorporates pylons with an average height of 29.5 meters. In certain areas along the route, the varying levels of the landscape will require taller pylons. The entire line will be supported by approximately 212 pylons, with two small sections buried near Merlin’s Hill, close to Abergwili and Llandyfaelog, both utilising open trenching.

Ceredigion has Section One, which is 10km long and contains approximately 44 pylons. To effectively assess the cumulative impact of all these proposals, we need more details about Lan Fawr Energy Park and the infrastructure necessary to connect to the pylon line.  The consultants have no information about anything beyond the pylon line, and most live outside the area, often lacking an understanding of rural life.

The consultations are an extremely uncomfortable experience.  Emotions run high. They are fuelled by stress and concern from individuals and communities facing their lives and businesses upended by the proposals. Considering the stress and emotional strain this is causing, it is ironic that our consultation was held at the Lampeter Wellbeing Centre last week!

Our initial consultation was in January 2024; the second is in progress now. We have until 16 April 2025 to provide feedback and comments.
