The Ceredigion Branch is launching a fund appeal to purchase two AudioMoths – a low-cost, open-source acoustic monitoring device equipped with GPS. This powerful tool can capture a range of sounds, including ultrasonic frequencies such as bat calls, which are often undetectable to the human ear. It’s a vital resource for wildlife monitoring, particularly in remote or difficult-to-access areas.
The branch plan to deploy the AudioMoth in strategic, less-monitored locations to strengthen our evidence for submissions to PEDW regarding the proposed pylon line and related infrastructure. Similar devices are already being used in other vulnerable parts of the mountain, and acquiring one of our own will greatly enhance our ability to document the rich biodiversity of the area.
