Flintshire Planning Update – September 2024

Currently within Flintshire there are four developments of national significance (DNS) listed on the Planning & Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) website for determination by the Welsh Government.  First and foremost with a decision to be made shortly is:

DNS/3251545 – Bretton Hall Solar Farm, Bretton Hall, Chester Road, Flintshire, CH4 0DF, with a decision expected during Sept/Oct 2023.  (Note that this proposed development straddles the national boundary between Wales and England.)

The other three DNS projects are:

DNS/32795559 – Shotton Paper Mill (Combined Heat & Power), former UPM Site, Weighbridge Road, Shotton, Deeside, Flintshire, CH5 2LL.  This development is currently in progress through the decision making process by PEDW.

CAS-02009-W1R1Z7 – Padeswood Carbon Capture and Storage, Padeswood Works, Chester Road, Mold, Flintshire, CH7 4HB.  At present time this project is at the researching stage.

DNS/3213127 – Holywell Standing Operational Reserve (STOR) electricity generating station, Ty Coch, School Lane, Holywell.  Further details regarding this project are still awaited by PEDW.

Within the LPA’s Planning Department, recent applications have resulted in responses by CPRW Clwyd Branch to the following:

FUL/000161/23 – Change of use of timber storage site adjacent to land providing 15 tourist lodge accommodation.

FUL/000044/23 – Development of a track, car park and site toilets for Enduro Club.

FUL/000489/23 – Use of hotel and installation of modular accommodation for a temporary perod of up to 7 years as Asylum Accommodation and Accommodation and Support Contracts (AASC) Initial Accommodation Hostel.

In the pipeline, and generating much objection within the local community, is a proposal for the construction of an anaerobic digestion plant with associated development on the site of the former Ruby Brickworks at Rhydymwyn.  As to date, no planning application has yet been submitted by the applicant, but a watching brief is being maintained with regard to this proposed development.
