Award-Winning Conservation: Denmark Farm Receives Top Rural Wales Honour
The Ceredigion Branch of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales (CPRW) has presented the 2025 Rural Wales Award to Denmark Farm Conservation Centre, recognising nearly four decades of exemplary environmental stewardship, education, and community engagement.
For almost forty years, Denmark Farm has been a leader in practical conservation. Its “Shared Earth” principles promote eco-friendly land management, responsible resource use, and nature-friendly innovation. Through these methods, the Centre has transformed the local landscape, restored native habitats, and enhanced biodiversity while maintaining the countryside’s distinctive character.
Volunteers of all ages – from schoolchildren to retirees – play a central role, creating opportunities to learn, connect, and care for the environment. Denmark Farm also supports Welsh culture and rural crafts, preserving traditional skills while fostering environmental awareness within the community.
The award was officially presented at a special ceremony held in September 2025 at Denmark Farm, attended by members of the CPRW Ceredigion Branch Committee. Annie Zakiewicz, Chair of the Ceredigion Branch, awarded a specially commissioned slate plaque from Blaenau Ffestiniog to representatives from Denmark Farm, celebrating their commitment to protecting and enhancing the rural landscape.
Annie Zakiewicz, Chair of the Ceredigion Branch, said:
“The project has had a positive impact on the local landscape, enhancing the character of the countryside and engaging the local community by involving volunteers of all ages, including children. It has created opportunities for learning and connection. Additionally, its initiatives to protect Welsh culture and rural crafts, as well as promoting environmental awareness, have been recognised as exemplary and inspiring.”Ryan Knight-Fox, Denmark Farm Nature Reserve & Volunteer Manager, added: “This award is a wonderful recognition of the work that has taken place at Denmark Farm over the past 38 years, but it also inspires us to look forward. We want to continue showing how people and nature can thrive together, and to encourage more communities to take practical steps towards a greener, more resilient future.”
In awarding the Rural Wales Award, CPRW Ceredigion has recognised not only Denmark Farm’s long-term commitment to the environment and community, but also its ability to inspire others and provide a replicable model of rural resilience.
