A Castle with a View

Conwy Castle is a World Heritage Site and one of Wales’ most impressive castles. But in 1976 a new major road crossing for the A55 threatened the stunning view of the Conwy estuary and its ancient castle walls. Despite overwhelming local opposition, the council attempted to plough ahead with their disastrous plan.

CPRW co-ordinated a powerful campaign to find a better route for the road crossing. CPRW President Lady White suggested a sunken tunnel to preserve the view and heritage of Conwy River and Castle, which was finally accepted after many dedicated hours from our members.
